Marcel Proust's Time Regained
This essay begins from the premise that Marcel Proust's "time regained" can be understood as the recovery of a primary experience of the cosmos, and of the metaxy or "in-between," as these terms are used by Eric Voegelin. The essay argues that the jealousy experienced by the narrator, Marcel, represents a closure of the self toward that primary experience of the cosmos and of the metaxy.
